What To Expect

Before treatment, your practitioner will review the benefits and possible side effects. Your skin will be cleansed, and topical numbing cream may be applied depending on the procedure. Then your practitioner will direct the laser onto your skin, controlling strength and depth precisely based on your treatment plan. After the treatment, post procedure products will be applied to the skin.

During the treatment, comfort levels vary from person to person. At Well Labs+ MedSpa Charleston, your comfort level is a priority for us. We have found the PRO-NOX™ Nitrous-Oxide (50% Oxygen and 50% Nitrous Oxide mixture) delivery system to be successful in helping relieve anxiety and pain in our patients. PRO-NOX™ is patient-controlled inhaled analgesia which takes effect in seconds, offering immediate easing of pain and anxiety. Since it is patient controlled, you can respond to your pain and anxiety when you need it. And it has the benefit of being a short procedure; PRO-NOX™ clears from the body in minutes.

Treatment and recovery times vary based on the technology chosen, the intensity of the treatment, and your individual healing characteristics. Some patients can resume normal activities immediately, however, if your skin is sensitive, you may experience a few days of redness and puffiness post-treatment.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment Guidelines

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

You may not be treated within 3 months of being on Accutane.
Avoid prolonged sun exposure.
Do not use medications that are photosensitizing at least 72 hours before treatment.
Avoid products with active ingredients for 3-5 days before treatment.
You may not be treated if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

Avoid exercise for 24 hours.
Immediately after the procedure, your skin will be red and feel sunburnt. Over the next few hours, the redness will subside.
In 24-48 hours, the skin will have a “sandpaper” texture that will slough off in 5-7 days.
Use gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
Do not manually exfoliate the skin.
You may resume your skin care products with active ingredients after 5-7 days.

After treatment, your skin will start to feel softer, look brighter and show a more even tone. Results will continue to improve over the next several weeks and can last for months or years depending on age, skin condition and how you protect your skin.

Effects will be visible after a single session, but you may need three to six sessions spaced about one month apart to achieve optimal results.

Each procedure has its own benefits. Laser resurfacing can be complementary to other cosmetic procedures, such as dermal fillers or neurotoxins. Are there any issues that would make it a bad time for this procedure?

This procedure may not be suitable for people with sunburn or who plan an outdoor activity immediately following treatment. Also, people with an active herpes outbreak should avoid the procedure.
