What To Expect

For both treatments, a numbing cream is applied 30 minutes prior to the treatment with the actual treatment taking approximately 20 minutes. Topical anesthetics can also be used for comfort. There is minimal to no downtime.

Immediately after treatment you may experience temporary redness, irritation and tightness and may be able to see minor scratches on the surface of the skin. You may experience pin-point bleeding at the treatment site. These are normal reactions that typically resolve within 24 hours depending on your skin sensitivity. Light peeling usually occurs in three days and is replaced with brand new skin.

Microneedling Treatment Guidelines

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

You may not be treated within 3 months of being on Accutane.
Avoid prolonged sun exposure prior to treatment.
Avoid products with active ingredients for 3-5 days before treatment.
You may not be treated if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are prone to cold sores, please treat preventatively prior to treatment. Should you have questions on what this entails, please contact our office.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

Sleep on a new pillowcase.
Avoid touching your face with your hands or phone for the rest of the day.
Avoid exercise the rest of the day post treatment.
Refrain from using products containing active.
ngredients for a few days post treatment. Remember, anything you apply to your skin post Microneedling will naturally penetrate deeper. In the case of active ingredients, it could therefore mean they are much stronger than normal.

Results of our Microneedling Treatments

Results are apparent immediately and will continue to improve over the next six months as collagen and elastin production is accelerated. Most patients achieve optimal results with a series of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart.

Microneedling: FAQs

What are the primary differences between the two devices?

Both VirtueRF and SkinPen® provide great benefit in improving the signs of aging and revitalizing skin. However, results with VirtueRF are considerably superior to those of SkinPen®. With that, VirtueRF treatments are a bit more expensive. But SkinPen® is a great introduction to microneedling for people who are new to the treatment and might prefer a more affordable option.

How can I maximize my results?

The number one way to maximize your results is to follow the recommended recovery protocol when you get home. Ideally, avoid working out or applying makeup or any other skincare for the remainder of the day and night following treatment. You can resume normal skincare and activities the following day.

Is there any issue with skin color for this treatment?

Men and women of all skin colors and ethnicities, including tanned skin and darker skin, can be treated with microneedling. In fact, one of the key advantages of microneedling is that it can be used on all skin types. The device settings can be customized to your specific skin tone.
