Why We Use Motus
Cheaper laser hair removal packages exist in Charleston. Here is what you get for the difference.
Motus carries multiple wavelengths, including 755 and 1064, so your provider matches the setting to your skin and hair rather than running everyone at one. The 1064 is what makes the system safe across all six Fitzpatrick types, including deeper complexions many single-wavelength lasers cannot treat well. It also handles lighter hair better than most, though the hair must still be darker than the skin around it. Fine blonde fuzz is not treatable by any laser, ours included.
Does It Hurt?
Older laser hair removal, particularly with IPL, could genuinely hurt. Clients tell us about crying through appointments and taking painkillers first. The sensation got described as a rubber band snapped hard against the skin, repeatedly, which is fair for stamping-style delivery.
Motus works differently. In-motion technology warms the area gradually, like a slow cooker rather than a blowtorch, while a chill tip cools the surface as it goes. Most clients describe it as warm and unremarkable. It is as close to painless as this treatment gets.
Can I Do This in Summer?
Yes. That is the point of the 1064 wavelength, and it is why we run laser hair removal for Charleston clients right through beach season.
Some rules still apply. We will not treat over a sunburn. Avoid direct sun for 48 to 72 hours either side of your appointment and wear sunscreen daily. Skip self-tanner for five days beforehand. We prefer your skin close to its natural tone so we can use the full energy your skin type can handle.

How Many Sessions?
Six to eight for most people. The laser only works on hair in its active growth phase, and only a portion of your hair is there at any moment, which is why one session never finishes the job. Most clients reach roughly 90% clearance after a full series, then come back for a touch-up every year or two.
Sticking to the schedule matters more than anything else you control. Miss sessions and you miss growth cycles.
Is It Permanent?
Mostly, and we would rather explain that than oversell it. The correct term is hair reduction. Nobody can know how many follicles are dormant at any moment, or how long they stay that way, so no clinic can honestly promise total permanent clearance. Pregnancy and hormonal shifts can wake up growth later too.
What we can tell you is that treated follicles do not come back, and the hair that does return is finer and slower. Most clients stop thinking about shaving altogether.
Darker Skin Tones
If you have been turned away elsewhere, or warned about burns and pigmentation, this is why the device matters. The 1064 Nd:YAG wavelength passes around the melanin in the skin to reach the follicle, which makes laser hair removal appropriate for Fitzpatrick IV through VI. We treat all six skin types here.

Before Your Appointment
Full pre and post-care instructions are on our site. The essentials:
- Shave the area completely, 12 to 24 hours before. Arriving with hair may mean rescheduling
- No waxing, tweezing or depilatory creams for four to six weeks before, or at any point during your series. Shaving only
- No Accutane within the past three months
- No self-tanner for five days
- Call us if you have taken photosensitizing medication in the past week
- If you are prone to cold sores and treating the face, pre-treat. Ask us how
- Reschedule if you are pregnant. Breastfeeding is fine
After Your Appointment
- No downtime. Go back to your day straight away
- Avoid unprotected sun for 48 hours and wear SPF on the area daily
- Skip the sauna, hot tub and hard workouts for 24 hours
- Treated hair sheds over the next one to three weeks. That is not regrowth, it is the hair working its way out
- Keep shaving between sessions if you want to
